Foam / Wood/ Stone
I can truely say my love of carving comes from printmaking, the carved trees are really just large foam versions of a lino block and were painted in the same way a block would be inked before printing.
I only started carving foam recently and love it. Finding the right tools can be a challenge but it is very versitile and can be made very durable through additives to paint. I look forward to evolving past the "chicken" and the trees to new adventures in foam.
The wood mirror was a spin off of some large wood block prints I carved. The block was nice but not something you would hang on a wall , especially after it was used to print. The mirror is similar and was carved, then painted the covered in hard resin. I hope to create more mirrors but would work in another wood, not pine as it resembles raw chicken when carving and does not like to hold detail. The stone rabbit is made from a round sand like stone found on the beaches of Barbados and can be carved with a simple X-acto knife.
